Wondering whether a W&L-supported application or service is experiencing an outage? Faculty, staff and students can now find ITS System Status information in more places across the W&L website.
The System Status message appears prominently near the top of the Employee Dashboard and Student Dashboard, making it easy to find when you suspect a technology issue. The same information is also available near the bottom of the ITS website.
When W&L-supported applications and services are operating normally, the message will display “All Systems Go.” If ITS becomes aware of a widespread service interruption, the message will be updated with information about the affected service, what users may be experiencing and, when available, the work underway to resolve the issue.
Look Here First if You Suspect an Issue

If you have difficulty accessing or using a W&L-supported application, check the System Status message before contacting the ITS Helpdesk. It can help you quickly determine whether the problem is part of a known outage that ITS is already investigating.
You can find System Status information in any of these locations:
- Employee Dashboard, near the top of the page
- Student Dashboard, near the top of the page
- Information Technology Services website, near the bottom of the page
How ITS Communicates During an Outage
When ITS becomes aware of a campus-wide technology issue, such as difficulty logging in to Box, slow Outlook performance or problems with outbound calls, our communication process includes:
- Rapid response: ITS makes it a priority to post an initial System Status update within 10 minutes of becoming aware of a campus-wide issue. This initial message lets the W&L community know that ITS is aware of the problem and is investigating it. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
- Wider notification when needed: If an outage affects a major service or is expected to last for an extended period, ITS will also send a Broadcast Mailer to students, faculty and staff via email.
This process is designed to minimize confusion and keep the W&L community informed while ITS works to restore full service.
If no outage is listed and you continue to experience a problem, contact the ITS Helpdesk at help@wlu.edu or 540-458-4357.
